How to share a large video on Discord without compressing it
Updated: November 8, 2026
You record a match or a clip, drag it into Discord and get told the file is too large. The usual fix is compressing it until the quality is ruined. There’s a better way: upload it once and share a link.
Discord’s limit
Discord limits the size of each file you upload; on accounts without Nitro the limit is small (10 MB according to its help center at the time of writing). A one-minute 1080p clip is usually well over it.
The fix: a link
- 1Upload the video to Dembed (up to 5 GB per file).
- 2Copy the video’s link.
- 3Paste it in the Discord channel or message.
- 4Discord shows a card with the thumbnail and title; clicking it opens the video in the browser at full quality.
Advantages over uploading the file
- No quality loss: nothing to compress.
- Quality adapts to each person’s connection.
- Works for the same video across several servers and networks without re-uploading.
- Every monetized view (at least 60 real seconds) adds to your balance.
For communities and servers
- Organize clips in folders by event, season or game.
- Pin important links in the channel.
- If your community has a website, embed the videos there with the iframe.
