How long does video processing take on Dembed?
Updated: November 6, 2026
You finish uploading a video and your library says “Processing”. What’s going on and how long is left? Here it is plainly, along with what you can do to get your videos ready sooner.
What happens after the upload
- The file is checked and the thumbnail and duration are generated automatically.
- Versions of the video in several qualities are prepared so it adapts to each viewer’s connection (HLS streaming).
- Content safety checks are run.
How long until it’s public
Free accounts have lower processing priority, so their videos take a few minutes to go public. Your library shows “Processing” with the approximate time left, and the video page updates by itself when it’s ready.
With Premium, processing is prioritized and your videos go public instantly.
While it’s processing
- You can watch it: your dashboard preview works from the start.
- You can already copy the link or iframe and publish them: anyone who arrives early sees the “Processing” notice and, once it’s done, the video.
- You can change the title, folder or subtitles without waiting.
How to get it ready sooner
- Upload MP4 (H.264 + AAC): it’s the format that works best in every browser. MKV or MOV files with unusual codecs can fail or have no sound.
- Don’t upload needlessly heavy files: a well-compressed video uploads and processes sooner.
- If your connection drops, don’t start over: the upload resumes.
If you see an error
If the status changes to “Error”, the file is usually damaged or in a format the browser can’t play. Convert it to MP4 (H.264 + AAC) and upload it again.
