How to download and back up your own videos

Updated: November 6, 2026

You lost the original file, switched computers or just want a backup: the videos you uploaded to Dembed are yours and you can download them from your dashboard whenever you like, even if you don’t let the public download them.

How to download them

  1. 1Go to your dashboard and open the video.
  2. 2Click “Download”.
  3. 3Choose the original file you uploaded or one of the generated qualities (for example, 720p if you want a lighter file).
  4. 4The download starts right away, with no wait.

Your downloads and the public’s are different things

  • You can always download your videos, whether or not downloads are enabled for the public.
  • The public can only download if you allow it on that video. Free viewers wait through a short countdown and Premium viewers download instantly.
  • A video blocked for breaking the rules can’t be downloaded, not even from the dashboard.

Why keep a copy

  • No service replaces your own copy: keep the originals on an external drive or your personal cloud.
  • On free accounts, videos can be deleted for inactivity under the Terms; with Premium they aren’t deleted while the subscription is active.
  • If you delete a video from the dashboard, it’s gone for good: download it first if you want to keep it.

Downloading several videos

Downloads are one video at a time. If you’re backing up your whole library, go folder by folder and start with the videos you don’t have the original of.

Frequently asked questions

Not if you choose the original: it’s exactly the file you uploaded.
