What is a monetized view: the rules, one by one
Updated: November 6, 2026
Your dashboard shows two different numbers: plays and monetized views. Plays count anyone who hits “play”; monetized views are the ones that earn money. The difference isn’t arbitrary: each rule exists because advertisers only pay for real people who see their ads. Here’s how Dembed counts them.
The definition
A monetized view is a real play of at least 60 seconds of a video, without an ad blocker, counted once per person and video every 24 hours.
The rules, one by one
- 60 seconds of real playback: what counts is the time the video actually plays. Skipping ahead or leaving it paused doesn’t add up.
- Videos longer than a minute: a video shorter than the minimum doesn’t earn monetized views, even on loop.
- No ad blocker: if the viewer blocks ads, there’s no revenue to share.
- Once per person and video every 24 hours: if someone watches your video five times in a day, it counts once.
- A daily maximum per connection: stops a single connection from inflating the numbers by watching lots of videos.
- No bots: robots, search engines and automated browsers don’t count.
- Your own plays while signed in don’t count, and neither do Premium subscribers’ (they don’t see ads). And watching your own videos over and over to earn more is forbidden.
From views to money
During the month your monetized views are counted by country. When it closes, the real RPM advertisers paid in each country (what they pay per 1,000 views) is applied and your share is credited. You see the breakdown in your dashboard and it moves to your available balance.
That’s why two videos with the same views can earn differently: it depends on where your audience is.
How to get more monetized views
- Hook viewers in the first seconds: what matters is that they stay at least a minute.
- Publish videos longer than a minute.
- Embed the video where your audience is (your site, your blog, your community) instead of only sharing the link.
- Never generate artificial traffic: bots, auto-reloads or paid plays break the rules and can get your monetization suspended.
Frequently asked questions
Because many people close the video before a minute, use an ad blocker or watch it several times a day. It’s normal: plays measure reach and monetized views measure what advertisers pay for.
